Training Citizen Scientists
The successes of many HMN projects and programs depend on the commitment of the citizen scientists and their dedicated volunteer teams. Consequently, we have provided and will continue to provide training for students, scientists, and members of the public in skills required for hummingbird study.

Education
An integral part of our conservation program is the collection of information about hummingbirds and passing that information along to others - the scientific community, federal and state biologists, land managers and owners, teachers and educators, students at all levels, and the public. One goal for this website is to reflect a deep commitment to the education and public outreach component of HMN.
Information that we obtain is disseminated in many ways. We present scientific papers at meetings of biologists and land managers, we present programs for local organizations, we write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, we write popular accounts for or provide information to magazines and newspapers, we participate in video productions about hummingbirds, we prepare field guides and information about hummingbirds for the public and share it through this website. We also share our knowledge and enthusiasm about hummingbirds directly with the public at monitoring stations. See our site and schedule information about locations where the public is welcomed to view HMN's monitoring.
Banding Station
Additionally, we build support for education projects. Some projects are on-going such as training citizen scientists, volunteers, and interns to accomplish our research, preservation, and monitoring objectives or the continued development of this website. Our other projects help create educational tools, such as a young-readers book on the migration route taken by a female Rufous Hummingbird or the development of workshops.
